NHS long term plan
Earlier this year, the NHS set out its priorities for the next 10 years in its long term plan.
Our NHS and local councils are working together to create a local version of this plan, along with a health and wellbeing strategy, to give people the best start in life, can live the life they want, and be supported in their choices when they need help. This will focus on improving people’s physical and mental health, and support them to stay well through every stage of their lives. Read more about the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly long term plan.
NHS Kernow commissioned Healthwatch Cornwall and Volunteer Cornwall to undertake some specific engagement with seldom-heard groups of people to develop our long term plan. We decided to focus on young people leaving care, and Gypsy and travellers, two groups which have very specific health and care needs.
Volunteer Cornwall supported CareFree and TravellerSpace to undertake the engagement by providing an outline of the engagement theme and suggestions of how the engagement activities could take place. Each community was given the autonomy to utilise the best approach to collect feedback, based on their knowledge and experience of working with young care leavers and Gypsy and travellers.
Healthwatch Cornwall was asked to oversee and report on this engagement and their report can be read here (PDF, 242 KB).
