Reminder to order your repeat prescriptions in time for Christmas

If you want to make sure you and your family enjoy the 12 days of Christmas then remember to order your repeat prescription in time for the holidays.

With just over two weeks to go until the big day you’re probably focused on the tinsel, the turkey and all the trimmings.

But if you require regular medication and don’t want the fairy lights to go out on a cracker of a Christmas make sure your repeat prescription reaches your pharmacy in good time.

Pharmacists are encouraging anyone who takes regular medication for a condition to make sure they have asked their GP for a repeat prescription and it reaches the pharmacy team by Wednesday 18 December at the latest.

Nick Kaye, a pharmacist in Penryn, Mevagissey and Camborne, said: “Christmas is a very busy time for everyone including GP surgeries and pharmacies and we'd encourage anyone who knows that they will require medication during the holiday to make sure they leave enough time for the surgery to prepare the prescription and send it to the pharmacy. The pharmacy will then need time to check and prepare the prescription.”

Many NHS services such as doctors, dentists and pharmacies will be closed or offering reduced hours during Christmas and new year.

Your pharmacist can also help treat coughs, colds, upset stomachs, flu and minor ailments such as nappy rash, conjunctivitis and cystitis.

Pharmacists can also prescribe an emergency supply of medication if any visiting friends or relatives forget to renew or bring with them a supply of their regular medication.
