X-ray department at St Austell minor injuries unit open for longer

An X-ray department in a minor injuries unit is now open late into the evening as part of measures to keep Truro emergency department free for those most in need.
The X-ray department supporting the minor injuries unit at St Austell Community Hospital on Porthpean Road is open from 9am to 8pm every day, including weekends and bank holidays until the end of March 2020. This is part of measures to keep Royal Cornwall Hospital’s Truro emergency department free for those most in need. New x-ray equipment was installed in St Austell x-ray department in 2019, providing the latest, rapid digital imaging technology.

Emma Spouse is the diagnostic imaging lead at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. She said: “People living in the mid and east of the county now have access to modern x-ray facilities closer to home for longer. This means that they will be seen much more quickly, treated locally to where they live and then can return home to start their recovery with no need to make the journey to the acute hospital.

“By opening the X-ray department for longer we aim to reduce visits to the main emergency department in Truro, which has been extremely busy in recent weeks. Whilst also providing more x-ray appointments at convenient times for those with routine outpatient referrals.”
